KELLOGG’S PUMPKIN SPICE FROSTED MINI WHEATS

Welcome to day 16 of Tag Sale Tastes’ Pumpkinpalooza!

Today I’m starting my day with Kellogg’s Limited Edition Pumpkin Spice Frosted Mini Wheats:

The inclusion of cinnamon and ginger in the ingredients offered hope:

And for those with wheat allergies and gluten sensitivity, in case they missed the “Wheat” in Mini Wheats and the fact that wheat is the first ingredient listed, there is the advisory “Contains Wheat Ingredients.”

Here they are:

I liked that the frosting was orange (even though it did not come from pumpkin).  Just like I appreciate that Strawberry Mini Wheats are pink.  My brain really needs those visual clues.  They looked so autumnal bobbing around in their dish of milk:

I was pleased to discover that they weren’t half bad.  In fact, I rather liked them.  The spice was noticeable, but not overwhelming.  With temperatures still in the 90s here in Houston, these were a subtle little reminder to hang in there and that fall is on the way.

BRACH’S PUMPKIN SPICE CANDY CORN

Welcome to day 15 of Tag Sale Tastes’ Pumpkinpalooza!

Today I have for you Brach’s Pumpkin Spice Candy Corn:

No real point in looking at the ingredients, but what the heck:

As I suspected — natural and artificial flavor, and of course, yellow and red food color.  Shellac is a new ingredient to me.  Kinda wish I hadn’t seen that.

Here they are:

Cute little candies, aren’t they?  They tasted pretty much like regular candy corn at first blush, chewy and overly sweet, but then the artificial and natural flavors kick in and the aftertaste, which stays with you, is fairly unpleasant, and not at all pumpkin spice-y.  My friend described it as antifreeze mixed with caramel.  I would highly recommend sticking to regular candy corn for eating.  If, however, you find yourself with a bag of these on your hands, they do have a higher and better use, and that is decorative.  They look quite festive in a fall arrangement:

They’d also make good turkey tailfeathers in your Thanksgiving dessert creations, such as these Oreo turkeys (made with regular candy corn):
